Hi, can anybody help me?

I've got 1 router Linksys WRK54G where i defined its IP as 192.168.10.1 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0

One PC connected to router by cable, with Windows XP:
name "desktop" / workgroup "HOME"
IP 192.168.10.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.10.1
DNS prefered 192.168.10.1
Agnitum Outpost has a rule in LAN Settings where ip's as 192.168.10.0 (all computer in this network) are trusted , In antivirus Kaspersky didn't do anything

One laptop wireless connected , with Windows Vista Home Premium:
name "Portatil" / workgroup "HOME"
IP 192.168.10.3
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.10.1
DNS prefered 192.168.10.1

Type of connection "Private"
File sharing - active
Norton Internet Security has one rule in "firewall" that from 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2 is "OK".

Results:
Laptop "ping"/finds the router and desktop without any problem
Desktop ""ping"/finds the router but doesn't ping Laptop.

I try to map Desktop's D Drive (previously shared) but laptop asks for username and password, as i didn't define anything i try the login i use in "desktop" PC initially, but Vista fails login'in ... i can't understand what is the problem ...

Can somebody give me a hand?

Thanks from Portugal.

Ping the notebook from the desktop and see if the computer responses... if it does... then you have to set up a "map drive" for both machines. Try that and see if that helps.

My 2 cents, anyways.
:o

Hi

I already did that, but i tested again. :)

Notebook "ping"/finds the router and desktop without any problem.

Desktop ""ping"/finds the router but doesn't ping Notebook.

I don't know if Windows Vista is making problems, of i'm missing some detail on router.

this looks like i may be a vista issue as in this thread just started
http://www.computerforum.com/83781-vista-file-sharing.html
i have never messed with vista but i will try to help.

what happens when you try to access the shared folders that are automaticly setup in windows ?

try to set a password to for file sharing on that D:\ drive and see what happens
verify that you have setup file sharing with no password needed
maybe run through the " setup home or small office network " again

i see one thing that needs to change but it will have no effect on your issue
if these systems are on the internet the prefered DNS should be the ip of your ISP's DNS server and not your router

i'm having problems, i've boot'ed my PC in Vista safe mode and know what? ... it WORKS!
XP PC sees Vista notebook, and Vista doesn't ask for a stupid password when entering PC HD's.
Now im using Network Magic.
For those of you using Vista Ultimate, try going to administrative tools, and enabling administrative account, im using Vista Home Premium, i don't have access to that, even when i try to add this it fails - shame on m$
When i say add it's because there is a part that controls users, i haven't got it, and when i try to add it from the file menu on administrative tools (i think it's here), appears a message that my Vista version doesn't allow it, and i know in Ultimate appears!
