Wireless network (without router) pc2pc

Hi all,

this may seem like a stupid question, but my mind likes to put A&B together and see what comes out..

I would basically like to network/connect/share files between my desktop and my laptop directly, without using the router, on a wireless format. both have wireless connections.

now my theory is that if both machines have wireless, surely i could connect one to another. basically, i would like to have musicmatch on my laptop so i can move it about and connect it to the stereo downstairs. i have over 70Gig of music that simply wont fit on the laptop along with all my work stuff. so ultimately i would like to share the music folder on my desktop, so i can play it on my laptop without using up the HD space.

Is this possible? can i share a folder wirelessly and directly from my desktop to my laptop? without using my router?

If so.. how? as i cant remember ever picking up the other cpu when searching for wireless connections... Or would i be right in saying the computer wireless adapters are simply recievers? and the router is a send/reciever?

any advice on the multiple questions would be appreciated, and feel free to post links to any step by step guides that might be usefull..

Thanks in advance..

Yea you can through an Ad-Hoc network. Since I do not know how to use Ad-hoc (as i have never had a reason to do so) I cant help you. But its called Adhoc. You can find a tutorial if you "live search" it somewhere.
