Wireless Networking

Evening all.

My PC and laptop both run on Windows XP. I am able to connect to the internet from either or both through my BT home hub router wirelessly. I've tried to wireless network the two machines in order to share files and to print from the printer which is connected to the PC from the laptop. All to no avail.

Is there any way I can remove all networks, network names, computer names and references from both the PC and the laptop so that I can start again?

And what do I need to read first before I try?

Regards

welcome to computer forum.

i may not get it exactly but why do you want to remove all of it?

Thanks.

Because I've tried to set up a network so many times using both the home network setup through a cable before I had the Home Hub and the wireless network setup more recently that it would be good to start from scratch.

DO NOT try to setup a 'wireless network'. This is a common mistake.

Goto "My Computer"

Then "My Network Places"

Then "Set up a home or small office network"

Click NEXT and NEXT

Check the MIDDLE radio button

Enter a name for the computer you are currently on

Leave the workgroup as MSHOME

Select TOP radio button

Click NEXT

Select the BOTTOM radio button

Click FINISH.

Do this to BOTH machines IDENTICALLY, with the exception of the computer name.

You then need to setup some shares - select which folders you want to make available over the network, right click, select "sharing and security". Tick the box for sharing over a network, and tick allow others to change files.

Do this on both machines - typically to the Shared Documents folder, and maybe your other document folders etc.
