Wireless printer offline

Hi all, I'm writing this out of desparation. I have an HP 6500 Wireless printer and a Netgear WNR2000 router. I have a desktop and laptop that connect with the printer though this router.

Here's the problem. Ever so often (and lately, quite often), the printer won't print. When I pull up the device manager, it says that it's disabled and the printer will show offline. I always have to end up hooking up the cable to the printer for it to print. Today, it was a 30 minute process to print one page.

I know that uninstalling the printer, removing it from the registry, then reinstalling it will work; I've done it before (about 4 times), but this solution doesn't last more than a month (at most).

Sometimes, I can reboot the computer, enable the printer in the device driver, then click the option to use the printer online and it will print. Today, I wasn't so lucky.

Can anyone please tell me what to do about this problem. It's driving me crazy, not to mention that it's quite annoying. :gun:

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions you may be able to give. I'd be much relieved - and a lot happier person (not to mention it would cause my wife less stress).

P.S. - I forgot to mention. I already have my printer set to a static IP address. In addition, I've noticed that, on the laptop, it gives an IP address as (last number) 2. The printer is set to 3.

And sorry for the cheesy icon. I didn't realize how annoying it was until I posted it. But it does accurately represent my frustration - though I've manage to keep all of my guns locked up in the cabinet - for now.

I have a feeling its your router. I was looking at other reviews with another netgear router and it was loosing connection with a printer all the time. Disable QOS in the router, if enabled, and see if that helps.

A BIG thanks!

Hey john,
I was at my wits end, but I went to the Netgear login page and to the QoS Settings tab. I found out that the "Turn Internet Access QoS On" was not checked. I checked it and was able to do something I wasn't able to do earlier today - print a test page from both computers (tower and laptop). It was a truly exhillarating feeling.

If this success continues, I have plans to leave you in my will. By the way, if that happens, you'll be the proud owner of a 1981 Chevelle, my entire troll doll collection, and 2 chickens.

Thanks a lot for your help. Sometimes I guess it's just a matter of knowing where to look. For me, it was on the QoS Settings tab (and in the computer forum).
