Wireless problem - please help!

Hi,

We have a laptop with XP and a desktop with XP, a netgear wireless router and wireless card in the laptop.

The desktop is hardwired to the router, and the laptop works off the wireless, well at least it did before!!

At home our connection went down (virgin media), after 2 days it was supposed to be back up, but I still couldn't get a connection, so rang their support line. As usual, all of the "reset the set top box" (we dont use a modem, it comes through the TV box) and "restart pc" advice was given-which i'd already tried.

In the end, the only way the operator could help me was for me to remove the wireless router from the system, and reset my IP in the cmd function. This worked, and I asked if everything would be ok if I put the wireless router back in to the works, I was told this would be fine, but its not!

The laptop and desktop lose connection to the internet within 1 min of being started, however the only way the internet works OK is if:

1.) You have the desktop hardwired, it works fine
2.) You have the net running through the wireless router, the laptop's net works fine.

So I can't use the desktop hard wired via the router, and cannot use the internet with the laptop+desktop supposedly connected to the internet like it was before!!

Obviously when I came across this problem, the first thing I did was get in contact with the virgin media helpline again, only to spend forever being told to "reset the set top box" "reset the pc" "go in to "run" and enter all these commands over and over again and it doesn't work.

In the end they just said oh its the router and not our problem basically.

But I cant accept it to be the router as it was working fine before they lost connection to our area and got me to alter settings on my pc to get it working again!!

I've given up ringing the support line and wondered if people on here could help?

I'd really appreciate it!!

Thanks for your time

Rich
