here's the deal. i have cable internet and don't want to run a cable line across the room to my computer. can i use a wireless router from my modem to my computer with a wireless adapter. is this possible?

You would need a router too....but that doesn't make too much sence if you only have one PC. Maybe you should just do it discreetly; along the wall, etc...Also, its not the tv cable you would run across the room probably, but rather the ethernet cable that goes in to your PC. If you have one computer it doesn't make too much sence to use a wireless router...

Also note that it you still want to go with the wireless option, you will need to hook the computer directly up to the router to configure it before you can use the wireless internet.

how? do i do it the same with a router and network adapter? i am under the impression that i have to share a network between computers. not just link the internet to my one computer.

Having more than one computer connected to a router is NOT compulsory. You do not need to have more than one connection. Simply hook up your one computer as you would if there were 2, 3 or more.

Hook your modem to your router, and procees from there.

Good Luck..;)

Ask your cable company if they have a wireless modem. Not sure about cable but our DSL provider gave us a wireless modem so all we need are the Network cards for our computers. Much easier and I was able to ditch my hub as I'm able to plug up to four PC's via wired connection if I desire (and I did). So with just a wired/wireless modem from my ISP provider I'm able to network 4 computers via wires or wireless.
