wireless router question

I have 2 desktops, one on the first floor other on the second. i want to connect to the internet. i found a linksys WRT54G wireless router and a linksys WRT54G desktop wireless pci adapter, both on sale at circuit city. my question is, the first floor computer is hooked to the modem now, can i hook up the router to the modem and the pc to one of the ports on the router and just buy one pci adapter

if i read correctly yes. you can have both ways. i have a cat5 available but i can disconnect and take to a neighbor, garage or backyard and connect wireless.
either or.
