Wireless Setup?

Hello,

I am running windows XP SP2. I am trying to setup my system for a wireless connection (I have been using a cable modem but I have moved recently). So according to windows help, I go to network connections and click on the wireless icon. However, I have no wireless icon. All I have is the icon for my previous cable modem connection.

I have also tried "setting up a wireless network" from the control panel but that doesn't work as well.

Can someone tell me how to configure my system for a wireless connection?

Thanks

If your cable modem is wireless ready, all you need is a wireless card to connect to it's signal. If your cable modem is not wireless ready, you could get a wireless router to send out the wireless signal, but you will still need the wireless card. If you are trying to get a wireless connection with a laptop, if it is a fairly new laptop, it could possibly have a built in wireless adapter already. If not, you will need a wireless card which can be PCMCIA or USB. If you are trying to get a wireless signal from a desktop, you will need a PCI wireless card (most common) or either a USB (works with laptop or desktops for the most part).

Yes of course a wireless receiver is required, cant receive something without the device being physically their to do it. Belking do a standard USB receiever for £19.99, then install the software which comes with that and then follow the instructions...
