Wireless won't connect

I have had no problems connecting my laptop to the wireless router for the past year. Now, it shows that it is connected to local but won't connect to the internet. The other laptops and desktops have no problems connecting to the internet through the same router. I reset the modem and router, plugged in the computer directly to the modem, and still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Is this with an internal wifi card or a plug in unit for your laptop?

Also, when you say "connected to local," but not to the internet, are you saying that you can see other computers on the local network, but you can't bring up any web pages?

It is an internal WiFi card.... I meant that the computer will connect to the router and network itself but it just won't access the internet or any internet pages... I just didn't understand why the other computers would work but it won't even connect to the internet when plugged directly from the modem to the ethernet port.

How do I go about re-installing the WLAN drivers without access to the internet?

Thanks guys

Ah, OK. Don't bother going about re-installing the wireless drivers. This is a different issue entirely.

First, check your firewall settings to make sure your browsers are not blocked. Second, open up the command prompt and ping a few well know sights.

Let us know the results of both.

Checked the firewall settings and IE was allowed as an exception... went ahead and restored default settings and enabled IE as exception to firewall.

When I pinged (google, hotmail), it said "Ping request could not find host www.....com. Please check the name and try again...

Any other suggestions?

Ok. Now its time to look into your DNS and router settings. Have you modified anything recently? Do you have any sort of ACL (access control list) set up? Some routers will allow you to only allow internet access to those devices that are specifically allowed.

For DNS, how do you have your laptop configured to get its network IP?
