Wiring Question!

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of putting together my first PC and I have some questions as to where stuff plugs in.

1.) My Antec 900 has "AC'97" and "HD_Audio" connectors on the same chord. Which one do I plug into the "F_Audio" on my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard?

2.) My OCZ GameXStream 600 Watts PSU comes with a chord that has "Main" and "24" connectors. Another chord from the PSU says "CPU 1" and "CPU 2". The "Main" connector plugs into the ATX slot on the motherboard, but leaves room for a 4-pin connector. Do I plug the "24" or "CPU 1" or "CPU 2" where the extra room is? Also, on the other side of the motherboard is a 4-pin connector for "ATX 12v". Which one do I plug into that?

I'm sure I'll have more questions soon, but this is it for now.

Well the ac97 is your regular audio and if your mobo supports hd audio... then plug that one in (sorry my internet is being a bitch and won't bring up the product page of your mobo) your mobo should be plugged in with the 24pin power cord...then the cpu can just be powered of the mobo and I don't think you have to use those cpu plugs
 
Alright, so I used the "HD_Audio" plug instead of the "AC'97" one.

I don't know if I explained the other question right...

There are two plugs I am concerned about. One is the "ATX" and the other is "ATX_12V".

I plugged the chord from my PSU that has the "MAIN" and "24" connectors to the large "ATX" slot. Although, when I plug in the "MAIN" in there is still room for 4 pins to be connected. Should I plug the "24" right next to it so it fits, or is the "24" where I plug into the "ATX_12V"?

I'm pretty sure the one that says 24 should be plugged into the ATX slot so that it fills it up... because it sounds like you're saying the main is a 20-pin connector which would be for some mobo's but yours wants the 24 so I don't think you use the one that says MAIN at all.
 
Well, the one that says "MAIN" is connected to the one that says "24". The one saying "24" is only 4-pins. So, does this mean that I should plug both of those into the "ATX" slot? Because I don't have a larger connector from the PSU that is 24-pins itself.

Assuming all this is correct, now what do I connect to the "ATX_12V" slot?
 
oh ok so the one labeled 24 is the addition to the main to make it a 24 pin connector... thats what you do. Thats the only thing you need to be plugging in... that provides power to the entire mobo... what other slot are you talking about? where is it on the mobo. because the thing right next to it (which i thought is what you said) is the FDD connector right?
 
I think I know what you did. The main and the 24 connector are supposed to be attached to each other, but you might have separated them. But yes they go together.

One of the 4 pin cables goes into the ATX 12v plug

Your power supply comes with (2) 4 pin 12v plugs, use either one. The second one is for some of the newer motherboards that require both of them.


The FDD is where you would plug in your floppy drive, if you have one.

Wow, thanks for the images! Alright, so the one labeled "24" was actually connected to the "Main". Cool, so now those are plugged into the "ATX".

So... according to your image, I connect either the one that says "CPU 1" or "CPU 2" into the "ATX_12V"? If not, than what?

On another note, what is this "FDD" slot?

Also, I connected all the fans to the power supply chords, so I don't need to connect anything to the slots on the mobo labeled "NB_FAN" or "PWR_FAN"? The only fan I connected to on the mobo was from my Zalman 9700 to the "CPU_FAN" slot.

Since I am only using one HDD, I don't need to use those SATA cables, right? I just connected the power cord to it.

I connected the optical drive to the mobo via an IDE cable. There are some audio ports on it, but I don't know where they go to, or if I even have the cables.

One last thing, where do I connect the "CD_IN" and "SPDIF_I" slots on the motherboard to?


Thanks for putting up with all my questions, this is my first build and I don't want to mess anything up.

EDIT: Also, my PSU doesn't provide a cable marked "PCIE_16" only "PCIE_1" and "PCIE_2". I just used the "PCIE_1" cable to plug into the video card in the PCI Express 16 slot. Is this okay?

If it fits smoothly, That will be fine.

CD_IN? Is that from your Optical Drive?

If So, You wont techinically need it.

I have never installed it as the IDE cable will actually take Audio down through too the motherboard anyway,

For your question,

Have a look up at the pictures provided by paratwa (good work)

See how the ATX power needs the main AND the extra 24 Power.

They will join together too make the one connector (even if you hold em together while you install it)

There should be no spare holes where the ATX power plugs into the motherboard

The "CD_IN" is on the motherboard. Take a look at the black and white picture above of it. It's right next to the "SPDIF_I" on the bottom of the mobo.

As for the "ATX_12V" I was questioning about, it's on the top of the motherboard. I don't know what to plug into it.
 
Have you read your manual for your motherboard at all? It's all in there!

FDD is for your floppy drive, if you are using one.

You have (2) square 4 pin plugs, 1 of them goes into the 12v atx plug like it shows in the picture I put up, did you look at it? Either one will work, and it only goes in one way. So do not try to force it. The other plug is for motherboards that require them, so just tie it up out of the way since it will not get used.

The spidif and cd plugs you are talking about do not need to be used. Like the other poster said, it will do everything through the ide cable to the cd/dvd player.
 
And it is always a good idea to connect the fans to the motherboard, they will spin the fans faster or slower depending on what temps you get inside the case. If you plug them in the way you said you did, they will always spin fast, and be louder than they need to be.

Alright, so I got everything plugged in and hooked up and I've come to a crossroads once again.

None of my USB ports seem to be working. My case only comes with one "USB" cable, to which I plugged into the "F_USB1" slot on the motherboard.

The motherboard, as seenon the previous page has "F_USB1", "F_USB2" and "F_USB3" slots.

However, I have two USB ports on the front and four on the back... Anyone know what is wrong or how to fix this?


When I turn on the PC it says to insert my OS CD and press enter, but I can't because the wireless keyboard and mouse I bought can't connect to the USB.
