Hey folks,
I purchased an Refurbished Dell Inspiron 9300 with an ATI Radeon x300 video card in it. I am interested in upgrading to the ATI Radeon x800 (low-end version) - however, I figured I should check to make sure that a swap out is possible at all before jumping in.
My specs are as follows:
Intel Pentium M
Processor 1.60GHz
798 MHz, 256 MB of Ram (Installing 512MB more shortly)
40GB HD
I checked the dell site. Under, ''Customize your Inspiron 9300'' on the Dell site to see what options they listed for installed Vid. Cards. It lists 3 possibilities:
1. Radeon x300 64MB
2. Radeon x300 128MB
3. Nvidia GeForce Go 6800
However, since the PC already has an ATI Radeon x300 on it why can't I just replace it with an ATI x800? Wouldn't the "X" imply similar formatting? Or am I being naive?
Dell doesn't list every possible card for their notebooks do they?
There's a large price difference between the GeForce 6800 and the Radeon x800. It'd be nice if I could choose the latter since I can find it at about $200 less than the GeForce.
Also, there is the fact that some notebooks have their Vid. Cards soldered to their motherboard. Any way I can tell if this is done before I get halfway up to my waste in notebook operation?
Thanks in advance for humoring me!
