Wireless PCI card compared to usb

Im looking to get a wireless adapter for my desktop. However, I was wondering if it really makes a difference as to weather i get a internal wireless pci card as opposed to an external usb wirless adapter? I know internal pci cards are typicaly supposed to run faster, but im not sure in terms of wireless, and I figured with a usb adapter i could easly use with other computers. Any help/comments would be aprreciated, thanks.

Yeah, speed won't make that much of a difference in this case. I have a USB card but only because my laptop has no PC-Card slots. Though it's nice to be able to move it around, it can be annoying. As you might of seen with my other posts, I sometimes have to reload the drivers for other USB ports, so I'll have like Wireless Connection #22!

If you don't mind dealing with some quirks like this, USB is great. But in your spot, I'd go for PCI

Okay, thanks. I was thinking usb just becuase in the future I may switch networks, and would have the capability of using it somewhere else, for a laptop for example at the hotel, but with a pci card, it just may get no use after a while. I probably wouldnt be moving around the usb device much anyway, so once it was stably connected, Id probably leave it at that.

You know, I'd seen some PCI cards that had PC-Cards in them, or PCI cards that had PC-Card slots on them. Hehe, just get you one of those and then remove it for use on you're laptop? ;)

(I'm not sure if you can do that one one that comes like that, but I don't see why one wouldn't work with a PCI converter...)

I use both USB/PCI wireless connections on seperate computers, I don't notice any differance in speed between them , however, I do get better reception with the USB hook-up,(home network) I had to use the USB on the cp that was furthest away from my router cause the connection to the PCI card continually lost reception. the USB, with the 6' extention wire never loses connection. As far as installing it, you only need to do this one time on each cp you use it on.

The problem with PCI is that you are limited to where you place you're computer, however, you certainlly can upgrade the antenna(or most of them allow this) unlike USB or most PC-Cards...
