WMP 10 raises cpu usage

Whenever I have WMP 10 open, my cpu usage goes up to around 70 percent. I don't even have to be playing a song. It starts just a few seconds after I open it and goes back down to zero percent few seconds after I close it. That is the only thing running at the time. Is this normal? Why would it be doing this?

this is normal. if you watch your cpu usage it will peak like that when you start large programs. then it goes back to idle when it has pulled the program info from the HDD and into RAM. if it settles back down to zero after a few seconds when you start it you're fine. this is totally normal.

WMP is a "resource grabber"! It places a heavier demand on video and sound as well as cpu time and you will see cpu temps climb faster there then with any gaming. If you run the screen saver during playback it even gets more interesting.

Have you tried that on a Vista machine? That would be a good alternative to WMP 11 for sure! MS should have stayed with WMP 10. But you know for Vista they had to have a newer version.
