Apparently your sound onboard or expansion card needs a reinstallation of the drivers. If you right click on the MyComputer icon and click on the hardware button seen on the properties screen that will bring you into the device manager. Once that is open scroll down to the "Sounds and Game controllers" section and open that up to see if there are any yellow marks next to one or more items shown there. Also look to see if there is an "Other Devices" section in the device manager. That will point out unknown hardwares lacking the needed drivers.
If you find any yellow marks next to a sound or unknown item you will need the board cd or sound card cd for Windows to copy them from there. You can also download updated drivers from the manufacturer's support site. Upon seeing any yellow marked items simply right click on them one at a time and choose the update driver option. From there you browse an installation cd or a folder on the drive until the correct device listing is found. Window will then install the drivers by copying them directly from there.
