I am trying to install Windows Media Player series 9 on a Win 98 machine.
The program install fine but I am not able to play anything with it as it
seems to be missing codecs for my onboard sound which is Realtek AC'97 Audio
in Device Manager.
I have downloaded codecs from Microsofts Website but I am getting errors
when trying to install them. I have tried looking up the errors to no avail
and am hoping someone may recognize this and know how to fix it.
The first error =
the setup_wm.exe is linked to missing export
kernel32.dll:getsystemwindowsdirectoryW.
The second error
Error creating process <C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\setup_wm.exe /Quiet/R:N>.
Reason: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
I am able to use Winamp and Realplayer with the same onboard sound so this
is really puzzling to me. Any info or help in this would be greatly
appreciated.
