Wndows more secure than Linux?

I don't think it matters which is more secure, as linux servers don't get hacked nearly as often as windows ones. Plus linux security flaws get found and fixed faster than windows flaws

The issue is not that Windows is better than Linux, just that another myth was demolished. And I think that's a good thing, because there are no absolute truths in the world of computing and sometimes it's hard for users to change their views.
Another myth is "Macs are better than PCs for DTP". That was true some time ago, perhaps in the DOS (or pre-Win95) era, but not now (unfortunately I have to work a lot on Macs, so I know that for sure).

I never said Windows or Lunix was better than the other, I agree that Windows is probably more secure but I think it counts for nothing because I'd say 95+% of all attacks are targeted at Windows boxes which makes it look less secure. And the closed development means no errors/flaws are patched until widespread discovery

Linux has more security eg: no one can hack you, but the compability is sucking like heck :(

LOL!

there are sooo many hackers out there just waiting for a newbie to connect a linux box to the internet.

   . I was a newbie. I tried Linux...for 1 hour. Then switch back to Windows 95, then sweared because it didn't work, so I went to 2000, and sweared again. Installed XP then

Why the use of past tense?
Either because I'm an asswhole and I can't spell correctly or either I decided to stick with Windows. I would choose the second. I know when I start this message you'll pick the first, but don't tell me else I'll kick yours :P

I'm actually testing xp64 for stability atm. Haven't got round to installing fedora core 3, or ubuntu, but ive tested several live dvds eg. - knoppix and suse 9.x. suse was especially good in terms of drivers - and has quite a good feel to it.

else I'll kick yours :P
chance of that happening - 0. :)

In terms of real security, Linux is beginning to get accepted in government circles:
From Slashdot:
An anonymous reader writes "Following in the wake of its previous certifications, Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 has achieved EAL4 certification on 'an IBM eServer.' This puts SLES9 in the same league as Windows 2000 for sales in the government sector and is the first Linux distro to achieve an EAL4 certification."

To those who can program (C++), Linux would be ideal because it would allow the user to fortify their own system whereas :) Windows users have to depend on Microsoft to bring out their latest software or an firewall software which will not alway stop hackers.

Well IBM's been punching out dual-core procs for the last few years .... they've also got this Cell stuff ... and they also make the procs for Macs ... I wouldnt rule out Macs entirely quite yet

1. The number one fallacy of security people is they think they are impregnable
2. How the hell do you know you cant be hacked in linux?

LMAO!

Why the use of past tense?
Touché :P

Been there done that myself ... its a lot more stable that I would have thought

True but generally speaking if there is a competent security system in place, you'll most likely be safe
