WNDR3700 Router

Hey, i just got this router and need some help.

What i simply first did when i got it was plug it in and plugged the modem to it and pressed the wifi button. It then worked.

However shortly after i would get disconnected for some reason and after reseting the network on my computer it worked again. Now ive only had one router before this and all i knew was to set it up with a password and get everyone in the house to connect to it and it was fine. The only problem was that at times it would be slow because we at times can have 4 computers/laptops connected to it plus other devices such as and ipad or the ps3. You can imagine how bad it could get at times. So i decided to get a new router, the WNDR3700.

Now this is the first time ive actually kinda paid attention to the router. As you may know this router is dual band and i have no clue about what it is and need some explaination in "easy-to-understand" language :D , actually whenever explaining anything.

Another issue is that after a new router you would assume faster speed. First of all i do not know if it is faster so i need to test it someone and tried JPerf but am not sure if i did it right at all because its speed was at 2mb

I also have a feeling some of my settings or configuration might be wrong in order for the router to be working at its best. Also if you guys have any tips i would greatly appreciate it.

edit: one more thing, at times when accessing my router on the browser it sometimes mention that another ip is managing the device... what the?

Do you have an ethernet cable from the modem plugged into the yellow colored port on the back of the router? If its plugged into one of the other 4 ports thats why you are getting that message. All other wired pc's must be plugged into one of the 4 black ports. Look at the following image and tell me how you have it hooked up.

What speed package are you paying for from your internet provider?

Yes its all working now... i seem to know understand this router a bit more.

However i got an issue with the router still, every now and then the connection would stop and either i have to go and restart the router or wait around a minute for it to run back up again. Why is this?

Also the settings for 2.4ghz , should i be setting it to a certain channel or something?

I kinda feel that the $120 i spent on this is a rip off. My older router was also a netgear and it was a simple home sharing one, compared to this a high performance one. Streaming videos from my computer to my Samsung S3 was faster on the old router and it wouldnt take as much time to buffer. I feel i must be missing out on something because you dont just pay for a 120dollar router for something that seems like a downgrade rather than upgrade.

2.4 ghz is wireless G. 5.8 ghz is wireless N. Thats the difference of dual band. You can try changing the wireless channel though. Usually either 6 or 11 works the best.
