Won't Boot?

I built an i5 4690 with a Z97 U3 Plus motherboard. The mouse would not wake up my monitor when it would shut off, so maybe a BIOS update? NO! Because I took another hard drive and put my windows 7 on it and with a bare system the monitor did wake up after it shut off when I wiggled the mouse. So I removed the SATA cable and put it back on my original Drive and now it won't boot because it says "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software might be the cause. I inserted the Windows 7 disk and when I went to repair it, it wouldn't. What can I do?

The usually happens when the mbr is screwed up. How many drives did you have in your system before? If you had 2 drives then your boot files are on the other drive. You can fix the mbr by doing the following.

Your right I had another hard drive when I was all this so I just disconnected the data drive and it booted fine then re-connected the data drive and now it's ok. However my monitor won't turn back on after it shuts down but it will with a bare OS so there is something in the OS that is causing this. Any ideas?

Yes, go into device manager, right click on the keyboard and mouse and click on properties, click on power management tab. Make sure the box labeled "allow this device to wake the computer" is checked.

Did you change any settings in the bios? If so, you might want to reset back to defaults.
