For about 5 months now my WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER won't retain my user name and password if the computer is restarted, I have to retype both user name and password in order to sign in and yes i put a check mark next to auto sign in and save user name and password but it doesn't help.

My computer is virus free and spyware free with all available updates and patches and I am running the latest version of windows live messenger, I have also tried the repair feature and even uninstalled and reinstalled the program.

About a week ago I completely redid the computer ( fresh clean install ) and I am still having the same problem.

Is anybody else having this issue?

Let me guess you have yahoo software installed as well? If so, thats the problem. But here is the fix.

You must edit the registry to fix the issue. Click on start, click on run type regedit, click ok and navigate to this key. Do not change anything else but this key.

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

and set the value AppData to a data value of %USERPROFILE%\Application Data

The old value is this.

AppData = %AppData%

The problem here is AppData should actually be the following

AppData = %USERPROFILE%\Application Data

If that did not help,install older version of MSN.I recommend MSN version 7.5.Install it and set it's compatibility to Windows 2000 and it will work like charm.

See...this is one of the MANY reasons why I hate these newest MSN messengers.Sometimes they even crash for no reason...:eek:
Plus every time when the newer version comes,you must install it.That sucks!
