Won't turn on!!!

My mother's 3yr old 80GB E-Machines desktop just stopped turning on. I checked the switch, seems to be ok. When I unplug/re-plug machine and push power button there is a faint click (sounds like in the CPU) accompanied by a "twinge" of movement from CPU fan , then NOTHING. Is the CPU shot?
Could something be causing it to short out? Is it worth purchasing another Cpu? or new computer? Please help!:o

The click you hear will be the protecting switch. It is probably a motherboard failure and it's also probably not worth upgrading the CPU, especially as eMachines don't have easy-to-use BIOS settings.

Try looking at building your own or in your local PC store.
