Hey guys.

My dad says I can get a GTX295!!!

Im so excited...

Any issues with them that I should know about, or have they improved their dual GPU architecture since the 9800 GX2?

Or should I go for the 4870X2?

One thing I dont like with the GTX295 is the cooling solution... but apparently the tamps are the same as a GTX280. I guess I could bump up the fan speed a teensy bit to about 40% - 50%. That should drop temps a lot...

not too much...

And Im gonna OC it more...

Plus, I just want to play games at highest settings, even if its at 60 frames... (im hitting 30 frames in CoD, with no AA/AF, and about 35 frames+ on far cry 2, all on high, no AA/AF). So I dont mind

I can always take my GPU to my Core i7 rig later... :p (im gonna get a core i7 when they perfect it, lower power consumption etc)

why will my ram bottle neck?

Its running at 942MHz.

and its 2Gb (I used to have 1)

I think the CPU will be the bottleneck, but as I said, I can still play the games at highest resolution, and still get very good frames (60 +) and thats fine, as im getting my core i7 when the new ones come out (less power consumption, kinda like the 45nm quads to the 65nm quads...)

This is just my observation...Just trying to help you out;)

A GTX 295 is a waste of money for you with your current hardware set up. That card will cost you over $500 easy:eek:

Why don't you look at your entire computer and spread the wealth. Maybe look at the GTX 260 cards, maybe a Q6600 and some new RAM. Those upgrades will cost you about as much as that single card. I think you'll be much better off in the end. My GTX 260 plays everything I have a 100% max all settings smooth as silk on a 22" screen. With a 19" screen and that processor...you might only use 40% of that cards potential...kinda a waste I would say.

Thing Is, Im not gonna upgrade for the next 2 years... (like my current computer...)

And My next upgrade is a X58 mobo or x68 (if thats next) and a Core i7. Im waiting for the new core i7 (just for them to refine it) then thats what Im getting...

The new Intel CPUs won't even be for sale for at least a year...that's if everything stays on schedule and production and testing does not run into problems. They are expected in Q1 of 2010, by that time there will be 2 or 3 newer generations of graphics cards out.

I am sorry...I just don't see the logic in buying a graphics card for that amount of money so you can build a computer a year from now. The GTX 295 will be like $150 when you build your machine. Just buy something like an ATI 4850 for now and put the other $450 in a savings account to build your new machine.

here in south africa, prices arent as simple.

a 4850 is $385 whereas a GTX295 is $530

Our prices are completely off.

I understand where you coming from, and I might even upgrade to a Q6600 (flash of the BIOS is needed though). I can run that OCed for now.

But I might even get the i7 now...

Lucky you! Around my birthday time I'm probably going to get a second 9800 GT, then save for an X58 motherboard and an i7 920.

My dad had a condition.

Get into engineering at the best University in South Africa (Which is the only one that is internationally recognized)

So it was quite tough...

Now the only problem is, seeing as Im gonna be studying (its a lot of work), I dont know when Im gonna have time to use my computer...

:/ That sucks lol
Dad: I'll get you that video card if you go in to engineering Cough(and will probably not use your computer) Well good luck!
