Word 2010 Question

Okay, I'm just curious, but it does but me not to know. When I open up the window to either open or save a document, I have a long list of documents. Some of these documents are in blue text while others are in just plain old black. Some even have a ~$ in front of them.

So what's the difference in theses documents. I can't believe this is a random occurrence created by Microsoft just to drive me crazy. Does anyone know for certain? I've tried to google it, but I'm getting nowhere.

I'd appreciate someone shedding some light on this.

As always, thanks.

The blue ones are compressed. The ones with a ~ at the beginning are old temporary copies of that document.
