Word not working after installing SP3

My sister needs help. After installing SP3 windows word will not open and gives the message "Error message 1706 can't access the files. Please insert CD-ROM"

My question is, can she just find an old restore point from before SP3 was installed?
 
Yeah. That should work.

Service packs create restore points for a reason :)
 
Why would a System Restore fix her problem?? The very name indicates it restores system files only and MS Office files do not qualify as system files. I would suggest she put her Office disk in the drive and do a repair on her Office suite.

She doesn't have the disk at her place. And if it worked before the SP install then it is obviously the SP that caused it.

Why wouldn't it work, MS Office is not a "stand alone program". It uses the system files as does any other program that is tied in with the OS.
