works repair tool

hi all i am new to this forum so hope i am posting in the right part. i have some corrupt works files which are very important and was wondering if anyone knew of a file repair tool to get these back. they belong to a friend who recovered his computer to manufacturers default and forgot to save these files. i recovered them but are now corrupt probably because i don't think he has ever defragmented his drive. hope someone can help.

It all depends what happened to the computer. well since you say

in that case you will have to get a program to do a full recovery off your hard drive. you can google for some freeware ones, such as this , you might also want to look into this.
