Hey, I don't know how many people here play WoW, or for that matter how many of you play it on a private server, but I just made a pretty nifty program for any of you that do to test out.. I don't have a link or it uploaded because it's to big but if anyone is interested, please contact me (pm, email ([email protected])).

Thanks

Well actually I'm not trying to do anything. You see, if you play on a private server you'd know there is a file called "realmlist.wtf" that you have to change everytime you want to switch servers. But I made a program that switches it for you and acts as a launcher type software and does some other things like saves your username and password for you so you dont have to remember all of them from all of the servers your on.

It maybe just an off-shoot, but I think private servers are against Blizzards Terms of Use or whatever, and thus, illegal and against the forum's policy to discuss about them.

And unless there any different from the ones I've heard about, they're slow, unstable and under-populated which are non-conducive to an MMORPG.

Well actually it isn't against their terms of use because the terms of use are directed toward using their server. You arn't breaking the game's copyright or infringing anything for that matter if you buy their software and simple use the same exact software on a different server with different terms of usage. Thats just my input and as for unstable...

I actually run a server off of my laptop and it's worked pretty fine. As for the ones with alot more players, I've tried most of them and with the newest revisions of Ascent (emulator used to host a wow server), they have become very close to Blizzard's server. I understand and realize that some details need to be corrected before it's anywhere close to as good, but for now it's a very good alternative for paying 15 bucks a month.

I play on a private server. The one I play on isn't that bad, avg about 1.3k people on at any given time, at the low points, maybe 600-800 people. The only difference I see between the Ascent version and Blizzard version is the clipping of characters and the AI. Really it depends on the server you play on. As with any private server, you are going to deal with quest issues, dc's, downtime, and overpowered donor items...beyond that, it's not that bad.

1: Its illegal.

2: The program has been made before.

3: Its illegal.

4: Its nowhere near the same as the blizzard servers. NOWHERE NEAR.

5: I feel like I'm forgetting something...Oh. Its illegal.
