Worth the Upgrade?

I have recently fixed my custom build. I now want to run video editing and audio software which is potentially demanding - okay, it is demanding. I now want to know if it is worth the upgrade to install a Phenom x4 9750 onto my system, with a 2GB RAM upgrade. I currently have a 4600+ dual core, an 8800 GTX, 700W OCZ PSU, and a zalman CPU cooler.
Overclocking isn't really an option since it already runs at about 52 degrees in my older ANTEC Case
This is on "CPU 1" in my signature, and I have an ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE motherboard.
All help is appreciated.

I run the faster 6000+ X2 model here and will simply wait for a 3ghz quad to be seen for the next work horse build I build here. I haven't seen any lags while capturing, editing, or even burning video projects. Newegg didn't have the 6400+ 3.2ghz model when ordering at the time.

Here I run the OCZ GameXStream 700w supply with 2gb of Kingston HyperX memory and a mid range MSI HD 2600XT model video card for multimedia as well as working with video and even some gaming tossed in. For a quick upgrade from the 4600+ the 6000+ or 6400+ dual core models would see the slight boost at this time.

That boost was certainly noticed here fast when moving out of the last build seeing a single core 3500+ 2.2ghz 939 cpu there while missing out on the 6400+ when giong to order the cpu for this build. Now newegg finally decides to restock the 6400+s?!

I was hoping to have seen a quad core in the current build originally. But AMD sadly lagged behind Intel there. So I'll be waiting for AMD to come out with a 3-3+ghz quad for the next build. For a stock build however going for a faster cpu clock speed seen with a dual core is effective for now and saves you a little on price too.

The 9750 would be a big improvement over your X2 4600. But sorta of a waste of money because (dont know about Canada) but in the states the 9850BE is just a few dollars more. Between the 2 the 9850 is a better deal. But unlike what was said above, if you already have a X2 dont go and buy another one. If your going to buy one, get a X3 8750BE or the X4 9850BE. But just jumping up from one Athlon 64 X2 to another Athlon 64 X2 this late in the game is a waste of money.

Yes, I did look at the 6600s and I would have to sell my 4600 to make it worth it. My motherboard, with a BIOS update, would support the phenom processors so the 9850 sounds like a good idea. I'm also wondering if it's worth doing that verses building a new machine with an intel chip - does the phenom 9850BE compare?

I would have to upgrade to an AM2+ board in order to run the Phenom X4 due out in January. But that's got a good clock speed for an AMD quad and worth the look when that comes along.

With a new build however you can go anyway you want. Waiting a few months however should see the AM3 boards as well as the newer Phenoms.
