Would a memory upgrade change anything?

I have a HP Pavillion A1250n with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0 ghz and 1 gig of memory. Within a few months, it seems to have become slower. It has 193 gb of 224 gb of hard drive availible and I do disk cleanup, clear history, etc..... Task manager says that it is only using around 520 mb of memory to run (when it is loading and idling), but the processor is sometimes up in the 75% and higher range, up and down. My question is, if I was to drop another gig of memory into it, would it change anything? When I did memory upgrades on other computers, they were pulling just about everything they had. An example of what I am experiencing is, when loading your desktop after closing the internet, the icons take time to reappear. They didn't use to. Thanks.
P.S., it should be clean, as I scan for viruses, spyware, and adware.

You might see a difference. I wouldn't suggest anymore they two gigs of ram though. It depends on what OS you are using and what programs you run. Chances are you will see a slight increase in speed but not too much. Another thing you might want to do is defragment your Hard drive. (in XP: Start > all Programs>Accessories>System tools)

Ok, thanks. I have already recently defragmented it. It can hold four gigs, but I was only going to put in a gig, because four can be expensive. I do want to put in a new graphics card, because the ATI Radeon xpress 200M ain't too hot (64 mb). It has Windows XP Media Center Edition. Any ideas on why it has become slower if its not memory?

Yeah, what programs are running, because it is not really normal for it to run as slow as you say after a few months of use if you do not have any virus, spyware, etc. and if you have defragged and cleaned it well...

So, have your programs changed since when you thought it was going well and now.

check Task Manager to see if any processes are randomly running taking up a lot of memory....or even the same process running multiple times

Over time PC's Slow down with the build up of Registry, Programs, And a whole lot of other anoying things.

Your PC is almost identical to mine

But My AMD 3800+ Came stock Clocked to 2.4Ghz...

I have 1.25Gb Ram,

And recently (tonight) i feel its slowed down alot, I added a 3rd 320GB hard drive 2 minutes ago and i could swear its Chugging...

It seems to me with the Spyware/Adware/Viruses/Trojans might be the problem. Download Avast and scan your cmoputer. If all the suggestions dont work I thnk its Back-up and reformat time.
