Would an SSD benefit me?

Rather I want the computer to run faster for my mum when she using AOL etc.

Pentium 4 650 3.4 GHz
NVidia GeoForce 6800 (or possible 2 graphics cards?? I didn't realise )
Foxcon ls 36 Mother Board (I believe)
1 GB of Infineon DDR2 Ram


Are there any upgrades I can make to DRASTICALLY increase performance?

Otherwise, I am thinking of building a £<1000 computer

By the way, does this mean I am running 2 graphics cards..?

For 2 grand I'd say you were ripped off in 2007 but thats my opinion. There were much faster systems out there for less money. It seems there might be 2 6800's in there in SLI but Im not sure.

Anyway dont get an SSD, because in your situation it wont make a difference. Your cpu, gpu and only 1GB of ram are why you struggle with your games. They were not even the best in 2007, my advice to you and I'm sure others here will agree is... dont buy an SSD because for one thing they are not good value for money yet, and it wont effect your performance in that machine.

Spend your £1000 on a new Sandybridge machine, aka socket 1155 motherboard and new core i7....get 8GB of DDR3 ram and a decent DX11 gpu and you will be set for years, and you wont even need an SSD with the new machine to see great performance in games.

Well an SSD is going to increase overall system response. However with only 1 GB of ram and a P4 that might be slightly negated. If I were you I would either scrap the system and build a new one or get another GB of memory. If you do build a new system then YES get an SSD. I got one and there is literally a night and day difference in terms of system snappiness. Photohop CS4 opens in 3 seconds flat.
 
2GB or 4GB should give you a small boost. What are you looking to do with the computer? Maybe do a clean installation of windows, get more ram and drop AOL and use Chrome.
