Hello i might build my own tower now, would this be a good system,

Athlon 64 3000 939
KN1 Skt 939 M/Board
2x512mb PC3200 DDR Memory Modules-400MHz PC3200
160GB 7200 IDE HDD
256MB 6600 GT nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 8xagp
case
power supply

But now i've been told that theres no point in getting a 64bit computer because xp can't use 64bit, and i won't be upgrading to the new windows when it comes out, so would i be wasting money?

Modern amds are all 64. Maybe you could pick up a recent athlon xp, but prob best to stick with the 64bit on s939

As for the system, whats it for? And provide links! :)

Well i want it all for gaming, half life 2 etc, and all the stuff will be from maplin, because i can get a good discount,

amd 64 300- http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45318&doy=7m8

motherboard, (changed to different one) http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44893&doy=7m8

ram, 2x512 http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2791&doy=7m8

harddrive http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=30276&doy=7m8

and i dont know where i'll get the graphics card from yet!, and i'll just use the power supply,tower,dvd-drive from my old computer and upgarde them in the future.

oh yeah, and im not fussed on harddrive atall, if all ime doing is palying games storing photos etc, all i'll need is 40gb, so i'll probaly get that from my old pc as well, because i only play one maybe two games at a time, and then when i get sick of em, i just uninstall them, im not saying i'll stick with 40gb, i would just rather spend more on other stuff, and again upgrade it in the future

ok.....woh.....woh.....i know im being completly ripped off by going to maplin, i've just been to that overclock website, and they've got the same amd 3000 for £112, but now im lost with all the other stuff, they've ram, that is 400mhz 512mb in a huge range of prices, what do you suggest?

i'd like to spend £500 for just these

processor
motherboard
ram
graphics card

ive got harddrive, case, cdrw, floppy, power supply on old computer

Better than ECS's usual offerings but you can easily do much better.

But now i've been told that theres no point in getting a 64bit computer because xp can't use 64bit
Well XP cant but XP comes in a 64bit flavour :)

Modern amds are all 64
There are still some select models that dont: Sempron 2600, 2800, 3000, 3100 and 3300 [SDA2600AIO2BA, SDA2800AIO3BA, SDA3000AIO2BA, SDA3000AIP2AX, SDA3100AIO3BA, SDA3100AIP3AX, SDA3300AIO2BA] doesnt support AMD64 instructions

motherboard, (changed to different one)
Different yes, but it's still an ECS. Have
