would this be possible

It would kind of depend on what you already have to work with...and how nice you want the rest of your parts to be. I just build a dual core Intel system for just under 1k, and Intels are cheaper than their AMD counterparts.

Actually Newegg doesn't even carry a 2.8 AMD dual core, and thier cheapest 2.4 is 690  The cheapest Pentium D is 250 and the cheapest AMD is 100 more.

amd has a 2.0 ghz dual core for 350

Thats...what I said. Pentium D is 250, and the cheapest AMD is 100 more (350). The Pentium D for 250 is a 2.8 though, and the AMD is only 2.0

it doesnt matter about the clock speeds they are still faster then a pentium D and sorry i didnt read your reply right :D

I'm not the biggest computer person but...how would a 2.0 processor beat a 2.8 if they are both dual core (assuming they are both stock) ^^; ?

amds have a shorter pipeline and you can only rush things so fast with amd cause there shorter but more complex so it doesnt need the high clock speed. but intel have MUCH longer pipelines and simplerer stages so the clock speed can be high. so that means amd is better for most things and intel is better for the other things. see CPU 101 in the cpus and overclocking section for more information

I read that while putting my own together...it still doesn't make much sense to me =P I needed a multi-tasking processor first and a gaming one second, plus the Intel was all I could afford ^^; Most of what I have is in my sig, all together it cost 1,022 with shipping.
