would this fit in my case

Yes you could, I've seen HD5850 which is 1/4" shorter go in a smaller case (xigmatek white knight)
HD6970 is 10.75 inches long
Method above

should i buy a new case like a antec twelve hundred or will there be enough room for airflow in my current case?

12 hundred is alittle overkill. lol. Does your case still just have the 120 back fan. If so adding a 120 intake front and 120 intake side fan would help alot.

It's extremely close, I highly doubt it actually.

A 5850 is the exact same length as a standard ATX motherboard's width, which is about 9.5 inches. The 6970 is 10.75 inches long, MUCH longer. I don't think you have 1.25'' clearance past the motherboard in that case.

The 5850 is a strong GPU, what resolution are you gaming at and what games do you play?

I dont mean to hyjack this thread but 87 can you PM as I would like to buy something from you and really dont know how to PM you nor can I post on the sales forum cause of lack of posts. Thanks and I also live in New Jersey so dont have to worry about shipping over seas.

I don't think you can PM until you've been here so long or have enough posts. You might also need to enable it in your options? not sure.

Sent you a visitor message.

OP- The resolution you are gaming on is really important, a huge determining factor. What monitor do you have?

The board you have supports Xfire, so worst case scenario if a single 5850 doesn't cut it get another for Xfire and then it's a beastly setup that can handle pretty much anything. 5850's are going for around $180 used these days, so two of them is about the price of a new 6970.

And actually if you are dead set of getting a 6000 series, just get a 6870.

About the same performance as a 5870, and only like 1/4'' longer than a 5850 so it should still fit fine. I can't imagine performance lacking for what you need, but if so just get another one for Xfire, your board supports it.
