That is caused by a program that hasnt uninstalled correctly or corrupted registry key or somethin like that. I had it for the longest time on my laptop until i found this guide:

i repeat my title name at you bomberboysk
that is alot of very useful info
however it is Christmas eve and i have a party soon.
Question to anyone, should i be woried about this problem
i curently use CCleaner however i have just repaired windows, and installed both SP2 and SP3 again. therefore made windows Messenger run some installer b4 each time i opened it.
so i thought id check in control panel instead of uninstalling from CCleaner.
ive fixed all my registy problems and done a restart but the black is still there.
it dosnt really bother me unless if it is doing harm

Not doing any harm, its just a missing or corrupted registry key or maybe the installer is missing or something, no biggie. Just got annoying when it was on my laptop because you go to uninstall a program and it takes half a minute to scroll to the bottom using a trackpad lol.
