Wrong CPU ID

I've just purchased a sempron 2800 (skt A) processor and have fitted it to my asrock K7NF2-RAID Motherboard. However, when I run cpu-z it is identified as a amd athlon-mp and can only run at 1.2ghz.
I have downloaded the amd cpuid program which also confirms that it is a athlon mp, however the sticker on the cpu says sempron and the code sdc2800dut3d confirms that it should be a sempron 2800.
If been told I probably need to modify my motherboard?? Any ideas on how to do so would be much appreciated.

yep! you guessed it! it's an ebay purchase.

Is there any way of finding out what it is other than looking at the sticker?

try everest.. :) It could be that your cpu just run's undefclocked because your motherboard has it set that way (my dad's old 1700+ (1467MHz) was running at 1100MHz normally on the old K7T motherboard, unless you setted it right yourself in the bios)

I hear of similar problems from other ebayers, so you might of just gotten ripped off... But have you tried updating your bios?

You might have you FSB set to 100 or should I say 200, It needs to be set at 166 or 333 either way its listed

thanks for the advice everyone.

I changed the fsb to 133(default was 100) and it booted up correctly first time. Unfortunately, that is the only time it worked all other attempts I was faced with black screen no power up and no post!

I have a zalman 360w power supply(ZM360B-APS), would this have anything to do with the power up failure or am I just clutching at straws.
