WTF - lines on my monitor

I have one of those big older monitors (17 inch) and I think its dying or someting. I've had it for almost 4 years if I can remember correctly.

The problem is that there are these fine lines that go up and down very rapidly. Even with my speakers off, they make a sound. Right at this very moment its happening.
If it matters at all, I have the latest drivers for my Geforce 6800 128mb 8x that replaced my old Geforce 4mx thats still inside my mobo (integrated). I have 420w powersupply too.

So, what the hell?

Try using the integrated graphics on your mobo and see if the lines are still there. If they are still there then you monitors about to die. If they disappear then it is your GeForce card, send it back for a replacement. Try connecting a different screen to the system and try it in both your GeForce and the integrated graphics.

Uhhh.. It just stopped now. It stopped like right when I posted. Thats strange.

it could be the connector (the analog monitor connector is quite touchy)
I mean, if to puch it somewhere, you screen will turn purple and such kind of stuff.
idd say, make shure the screws there are good tightened (ok, and now im not shure if thats a correct sentence, anyway, i hope you know what i mean ;) )

I'm not sure what you mean by lines going through it... as to what they look like, but a long time when I tried to upgrade an older Compaq Presario I put more RAM in it than it could support. This caused several yellow lines to go across my screen sometimes follwed by lockups.

Aha yeah. That must be it. It gets quite chilly in here sometimes. My computer tower is a great source for feet warmer. It was the night before that I was playing around with the cords with my feet because that area was kinda warm. I distinctly remember me screwing around with a big fat cable by putting it between my big toe and smaller toe because it was so tense when I was playing D3 with my new Geforce 6800.
