is the x1950 one of the best dx9 cards? I am looking for a amazing budget gaming card, and the x1950 is only 149 in its 512mb version on newegg. I dont know much about vid cards so would this be a sutiable replacement to spenind 300 on a great dx10 card?

Well, I own the HIS Excalibur edition of the X1950 (which if I remember is slightly clocked faster from factory than the other models, but hardly by enough to make a huge difference) and although many people mock the card it actually performs rather well for me. It'll run games such as CS:S HL:2, Battlefield 2, the new Tomb Raider Anniversary all on high details with full AA and AF enabled. It also runs Battlefield 2142 on medium to High detail smoothly. I'm not sure if it's one of the best DX9 cards out today but for what you pay for it, it does it's job and quite sufficiently.

It runs Company of Heroes, Need for Speed: Carbon and the new Command & Conquer on full detail at a high resolution too with no hiccups.

I'm not sure how much of a difference, if any, you would experience going from your 7900GS to an X1950 though.

Rove.

You would see better performance if you went to a 1950 but i dont think it would be that big of a difference to pay 149 though, best off saving for an 8800

If you already have a 7900GS a X1950 GT or Pro would be a waste of money, you would have to go with a X1950XT to see a big difference, but the money it would cost or a 7950 you would be better off finding a good DirectX 10 card.

the 7900 is my lappy, the card will be going in a brand new desktop build, it needs to have a good card so waiting and saving up for a 8800 is out of the question, is the difference between the x1950 and the 7950gt big enough to warrant waiting for the MIR?

Like said above the 7950 is better than the X1950 GT or Pro. The X1950XT and the 7950GT are pretty equal

ur wasting ur $$$, wait for the 8900 series, and ati's competing cards..

then blow ur cash

i will not spend more than 150 total on the card, do you not understand that?

so its safe to say getting a 7950 is a better bet? I also upped my mobo so i might eventually go SLI, would doubling up the 7950 later on be a good plan to?

by later on i mean in 2-3 months depending if i need more power

What's the point of buying a 7950GT now when it costs around $170? You can buy a X1950 Pro, and wait for the new Nvidia card to come out so you can buy a lowered price 8800GTS or 8800GTX
