x2 4600 vs 4800

i just had a quick question about a couple of cpus.
i'm looking to build a very budget system, but i want it to last me.. so i'm looking to buy an x2, and i'm trying to figure out if the difference between the 4600 and 4800 is that extreme, because from what i understand it's mostly the difference in the L2 cache.. the 4600 is 2x512kB and the 4800 is 2x1MB...
does this affect the performance that much?
the price difference is considerable 4600 is 115ish and the 4800 is closer to 180 so i'm basically asking if it's worth going extra a little bit.. or is the performance difference negligible

if i was looking at those 2 chips, i would do the 4800+ for sure. my 4400+ is the same cache wise as the 4800+. id get a chip with the 1 mb cache.

also, the core 2 duo chip is a good pick performance wise. prolly even out perform the 4800+. i think the e6300 (1.86) is like 180 bucks on newegg. either way u go, AMD or Intel ull be more than happy im sure.

I'd actually be tempted to suggest the 4600, or even a cheaper processor. The extra cache doesn't justify an increase of 50% in price.
