X2 or FX

yeah definitely wait until AMD comes out with AM2. also AMD & Intel are going to be coming out w/ quad core so keep an eye out for those.

I'd be inclined to save the money. There's only 200Mhz difference between them at stock speeds. With the FX series, you're paying a lot for the unlocked multiplier.

Exactly, and unless you plan on diong some heavy overclocking, the X2 would be a better choice.

they'll be a while away, but there are other chips on the way that bear interest

I was wondering if it is worth the extra money getting the FX-60 or should i just go for the X2 4800+?

lol im an AMD man myself but this is making me think... i might simply get the core duo for my next build :) (if i have a next)
it a mobile chip you know, and even though it says 478 its not the same as the desktop socket, you'll need to buy a specific desktop motherboard with the mobile chipset current mobile 945
