X2 the threat: Anyone ever play it

Yes! It's awesome! It's pretty old now, but's it's still a great game. It's a little involved and takes a while to build up stuff, but the appeal is that it is a game that you can do just about anything in. You can build up a profession as a bounty hunter, a trader, an explorer or follow the actual storyline in the game (or ignore the storyline all together). I must stress though that it takes a while to build up capital, but it's as close to a completely living world as any game. There's a newer game called X3 (which is actually on sale for $15 right now on Steam, it also includes the expansion).

The graphics are amazing and it's a lot of fun to just explore, one of my friends once just took off at sub-light out of a system and after quite a long time, came across a trading lane. Followed the lane all the way to some new systems that were not connected to the hyperspace gateways. Additionally, when you build up enough capital, you can even buy full stations for trade and sales. If you have more questions, let me know and I'll try to help you out as best I can.
 
thx scout sounds like it could keep my occupied for awhile im installing it now, id buy x3 but im gunna try this one first to see if i like it.
 
well i installed it asked for reboot, went to play and it just keeps telling me reboot to finish the installation, ive set compatibility to xp still no luck

You will be much happier with X3. X2 is fun, but Terran Conflict is quite a bit larger. The latest patch also adds a very nice mission and reward.

Regarding your install issues, what OS are you trying to run it from?
 
Head over here to get going. The same instructions should apply to Win7.

Your restarting issue sounds like a problem with the original copy protection on that game. Once you get the proper patches applied, you will have removed that copy protection. I think the 1.4 patch is the one that removes this (confirmed).
