X800GTO + PSU problem

I just got my new system (see sig), and i had a problem earlier about haveing a 24-pin motherboard plug and a 20 pin psu cable. I used the 20pin in the 24pin socket, and it works, but when i run 3dmark03/05, the game closes out after the first test. And i also hear a loud fan, not sure where its coming from.

Could this be because of not haveing the extra 4 pins?

EDIT: Remembered that my psu is only 400watts, and the mfg's site says 420 or higher. So do you think its the wattage or the 4 missing pins?

the 4 extra pinns are just 2 * +12 and 2 * GRND, im running my system also witha 20 pin PSU and a 24 pin mobo, so, i dont think thats the problem.
i think its your PSU wich cant support the power requirements as soon as your grafics card starts to drain power ( under load )

Yeah

It could indeed be the PSU, yet you mentioned that you hear a loud fan noise. In my view, that could either be the CPU fan or the GPU fan. One of those could be ovrheating. I would bet on the vid card overdraining the PSU when it spins up under heavy load. This means it stresses the GPU and the PSU at the same time.

I though it was an error, but in speedfan it says that a temp is 127C, but bios says my cpu is around 30c, so my cpu isnt overheating.

And i borrowed my friends 500watt psu with 18A on the +12V rail and it still happens. I noticed that whenim running 3DMark03, a fan gets louder and then the game crashes at the end of that test.

Im thinking of buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148008, do you think that looks like a good one? Its also a 20/24pin. Also, when i had my friends 500W in, the cpu fan stopped sinningwhile in windows, and it looked like it was trying to move but it couldnt (nothing was in the way). So i think i'll just wait to get a new psu before using it... kinda sucks since i overnighted the parts, lol

Mine does the same thing when windows starts up sometimes, that is not a problem.
