Xbox 360 controller to PC on Cod4

My brother has come down for the week and has brought his "broken" Xbox 360 and hes has brought the pad down it is a wired pad i was thinking about buyign an Xbox 360 so we tried to plug it in and we installed the Microsoft updates for it and i turns on when i plug it in but there is no way of using it in Call of duty 4
any ideas of how i could get it to work or i cant get it to work.
i have looked on Cod4 for a setting but there is none i assume that there might be a patch...

I could be wrong but some games do not suppor the microsoft controller. Check for updates. Some game controllers such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826102007
include software to assign keyboard buttons to the controller itself.

pinnacle software's game profiler... it is 19.99, but it basically builds a profile for gamepads for a lot of games... it already has a bunch of fps games loaded into it... it has a trial version that is the full verion, but limited to 30 days

btw... i have the xbox360 controller for windows as well

I cant remember the program that I used to have but it mapped buttons from the 360 to mouse and keyboard buttons. This looks kinda promising. But isnt there something in xp? Start>control panel>(switch to classic)>game controllers.
