Xbox 360 to 1600x900 PC Monitor

Title pretty much says it all. I'm getting a Xbox 360 Slim and want to hook it up to my HP 2009m 20 inch monitor that has a native resolution of 1600 x 900. The Xbox has HDMI and AV out. I ordered a HDMI male to DVI adapter that should plug right in to my monitor. Should that work okay? I've set my computer to 720p and it stretches the image horizontally but not vertically so I have a squished image with wide black bars on the top and bottom of my screen. I'm hoping this doesn't happen with my Xbox.

Any suggestions and ideas? Is what I'm going to try likely to work?

Should scale fine. The xbox will select the correct res. That's from what I have heard at least. You have the VGA cable for the Xbox though, right? Or does your monitor have HDMI?

You will not get sound, but the picture will work. You will need either and HDMI or composite connection to get picture + sound

Yeah I've got an adapter for the sound. I'm just worried about my monitor displaying 720p, filling the screen, and not being squished vertically. PC, it's a DVI adapter. My monitor is fairly old so it only has VGA and DVI, no HDMI.

I think I'm going to use a DVI to VGA adapter out of my computer so that I can just press a button on the monitor to switch from Xbox to PC. I currently use the only DVI port on the monitor for my computer.
