If I want a machine exclusively for gaming if I get an XBOX 360 and plug in a mouse and keyboard will I see the same performance as in a high-end PC?

The XBox 360 is very good for gaming, and you will probably see similar performance as a mid-high end gaming pc. However with the XBox 360, you can not use it for similar CPU intesnsive tasks such as photoshop or use it for word processing. But just the gaming aspect, then yes, it's pretty much similar to a mid-high end gaming PC.

The chances of getting a mouse to work with the Xbox 360 are quite slim. It would serve no purpose.
If you only want to game, then the Xbox 360 is good. Its better than a PC for gaming because:
- no need to worry about system requirments
- no need for system upgrades
- no need to get the latest drivers and patches
It certainly cannot replace a desktop PC.
