XP Bit Questions

I am building a new computer, and i will be installing windows XP on the new Mobo. How can i tell if the XP i have is a 32 or 64 bit version, or if XP even came in 2 versions? I have windows xp home edition 2005 if that helps any. What are the advantages of 64 vs 32 bit?

First off, it will say on the packaging what the bit rate is. XP Pro was the only version of XP to have both 32 and 64 bit I believe.

Using 64-bit has a bigger advantage because you can support up to 8GB of RAM with XP but over 120GB of RAM with Vista 64-bit. It also allows for better use of the 64-bit technology - meaning your computer works more efficiently.

However, I have heard XP 64-bit has quite a few issues with program compatability.
 
XP pro 64 bit supports up to 128gbs of memory, not 8.

Vista 64 Home Basic supports up to 8gbs.

Vista 64 Home Premium supports up to 16gbs.

Vista 64 Ultimate/Business/Enterprise supports up to and over 128gbs
 
Unless you are sure you can get drivers for applications, stick with 32 bit.
Most likely all your applications and maybe most games are written for 32 bit.
64 bit can address more memory ( up to 128Gb) but it's debatable whether anything much would use it.
