Hello all. Sorry to bother you, but I have a unique booting problem with Windows XP Home Edition.
Alright, so I installed windows fine. Everything worked great, boot up took no more than 25 seconds. I added more programs over the next 2 hours or so, including service pack 2, as the disk I have only has the original XP. Everything still worked great. Now, I installed AOL Safety and Security Center. Now problems begin to show up. Now, it takes two minutes to boot up compared to the recent 25-30 second boot. My computer began to crash and freeze repeatedly during startup and shutdown, and when opening programs. I ran my System Mechanic 6 program, and 260 errors were removed from the registry. It also showed that a error was located on my hard drive, but it was unable to fix it. So, my computer began to be stable again, but very slow at bootup.
I downloaded a program called SpeedBoost 2004! to improve my loading time. It helped vastly, but now my computer has errors at every boot up, such as "file not found." I have tried uninstalling the AOL virus software, but my computer was still slow to boot up. I even reinstalled windows, which is where this article begins. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does the disk error that showed up before mean I need a new hard drive? Would that solve my problem? Thanks again.
System Specs:
Asus P5ND2-SLI
Pentium D 930 overclocked to 3.45 GHz
nVidia 7800 GT
512 MB RAM
