So i got this new computer and im trying to load windows xp home on the new hard drive. when i put in the cd it goes through the steps and then comes to the part where it shows your harddrives. My hard drive shows unpartitioned. So im going to partition it or format, w/e its called with ntfs. When i click on that to do that It bringhs up the progress bar then goes straight to a page where it says:

"setup cannnot format partition. Your computer mat not have enough memory to perform this operation or your windows xp cd may contain some corrupted files".

well i have 2 gb of memory so i know i have enough, so why wont my disk load xp?

You either have bad memory or possibly a bad hard drive. Download and burn memtest to a cd and boot to it and let it test your memory.

What brand of hard drive is in it? You would need to download the drive manufacturers diagnostic utility and do an extended test on your drive.

Also, is the cd scratched?

Are they surface scratches or are they pretty deep? Do you know of anyone that has the same cd you have? You can borrow it and use it but make sure you use your key.

yea it was the cd itself. they were just surface scratches but i dont think that was the issue, i really do think it had some corrupted files on the disk but i found an iso of xp home online and i already got it loaded, weird thing it that it never asked me to enter my key code in....

Where did you get it from? A torrent? That means it came preactivated and technically its a pirated OS.

i got it from jumbofiles.com/nnsoflz3rz40

well is thre a way to make this OS a legit copy so i don't keep having that box pop up every 10 mines asking to register and to activate genuine copy?

Either find a cd that matches yours exactly. Is your XP cd from microsoft or is it a oem recovery cd? What does it say on the cd you have?

dont have one, its my work computer, they dont know where it is, so i had to find an iso image of the home boot cd

I'm trying to help you here. I need to know the cd that you were using originally to install windows where you said it couldn't format the drive, what did it say on the cd? Is it a genuine microsoft microsoft windows xp cd? Is this a store bought computer? Does the side of the case have a cd license key attached to it?

no I do not have a genuine copy of windows. my work does not know where there CD is at so I had to bring one from home(copied) and it wouldn't format the drive.

the old computer has a COA on it yes. The new one does not cause we bought it without a OS, which is why I had to bring a copied xp home disk from home to load the os on, but it wouldn't format so I had to get a .iso of the disk off line.

so in turn no I don't have a genuine windows disk, yes i do have a legal COA code for windows xp home though.

You will need to find a genuine windows XP Home OEM cd and use it but you will need to enter the key that is on the side of the case that you have. I'm assuming it was a store bought pc which means it would have been an OEM license. I've done this before it and it works, you may have to call microsoft to get it activated though. Try finding someone that has the oem cd and borrow it or make a copy of it.

Or you may try something like this.

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/Windows-XP-Home...370?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf625b352

Or depending on the specs of the pc you may be able to buy windows 7 and install it.

Yea thats 40 bucks i dont have right now

Well i got xp on here and its working fine so, ill just call up to Microsoft and have them activate my key, cause im not gona go out and spend like 40 bucks and a cd and another key code when i have a perfectly good code. and ill attempt to locate a cd from a friend or something too

You'll be lucky if they activate it for you as its non genuine install. Also your cdkey must match the type of install used, retail, upgrade, OEM.
