XP/CPU problem

I have an ABS comp, XP, now everytimes I start up it says it has to check files and it takes forever and says the files are unreadable. The comp is starting to get slower and freeze more. I defraged and clean disk, 78% free space now. Any ideas? Appreciate greatly

Sounds like your hard drive could be going bad. Back up all your data first of all. Then go to the hard drive manufacturer's website and see if they have a program that will scan your disk to see if theres anything wrong with it.

How old is it? You should download some anti-viral and anti-spyware programs and scan your computer, that could contribute to your computer's slow speed.
