Hi, this is my first post on this forum, I'm hoping you guys can help me.

I left my laptop today for my girlfriend to look on the internet while I was at work. She's used it a few times today, and said that the last time she used it that is was 'asking her things' ....... not a good sign I'm thinking !
I've tried to use it tonight and quite a few things have changed

1, the look of windows has changed, colours, buttons and tiles are different

2, the desktop background has gone

3, icons are there but all aligned on the left

4, the broadband won't connect automatically, instead it asks first

5, email won't connect, comes up with account details but asks for password

6, email shows 'welcome to outlook exrpess' and contains nothing in inbox etc

7, Internet explorer show 'set up screen' but does have favourites etc

I've been able to set the theme back, so the view style of windows has returned, and likewise, the desktop wallpaper is there in the list...... I feel that she may have somehow switched users but I can't figure out how to change it...... and where are the stored emails ? - what has she reset or changed ? can anyone help ?

thanks very much in advance for your advice !!

Paul.

lol-she has been in all the settings by the sound of it!!!

if she switched users that would mean there would be an option of two different user accounts on boot up into windows?

I agree, see might have made you a new user account. IF not, then she messed up with all of the setting and I would also run a AV scan to make sure not of those buggers are hanging around. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, there's no extra option on boot up, and going to control panel and user accounts reveals the normal administrator and guest account (which appeared to say "On") however, turning it off made no difference.
Also, instructions found on the net where it says to go to start then log off and click a green arrow to select between users doesn't work as there is no green button (perhaps because there is only the one account)

Is there an option on xp to do a system restore ???

Is there anything else I can try ? - I need my stored emails back !!

Paul

Thanks very much for the advice, I've managed to sort it with a system restore

.... I asked her, did you turn the pc off by pressing and holding the off button ?

It seems that several of these hard resets have caused the issue... fortunately sorted now

cheers !

Paul
