XP going into setup every time I REBOOT !!!

Hello,

I went through a XP installation but when it said starting XP installation I got the blue screen on death . So now i am not bothering with the installation but i have a problem.

Every time i restart my pc it gives me a option to either continue with installation or go onto windows . I want to just go onto windows however by default it goes onto setup instead !

Does anyone know how i can stop this from happening :D !?

Thank you !

If you dont have anything imporatnt on your hard drive just reformat it again . Start with a blank slate take everything off and make one partition and format it in NTFS and let it go and hopefully no bsod this time.

Hello,

Yes i would like to reformat it but i cant. ! When i go to reformat it it just goes to the blue screen of death ! I have tried replacing the RAM , the CPU is not overheating either !

I just do no know :S !

What is the error that the bsod is giving you? Here is a problem i had recently on a pc i worked on. If you have service pack 2 on the comptuer and are trying to install with a sp1 cd it will not work. Make sure you have those right or you will get hte bsod

Once on the blue screen but sometimes it doesnt say that message. The PC does have XP SP2 and im using a XP SP2 disk. It was working fine it got to the part where it says XP could not find a hard drive . So i tried it again and then it started going onto the blue screen when the setup was saying (Sarting Windows Setup) .

So i could never get passed that ever since ! Wierd ! I do not know what happend to be honest.

So now if i have to find a way of formatting because everytime i boot the PC it automatically goes onto the setup ....

Can you think of something to try ?

Thanks !

It seems as if you tried installing XP but didn't succeed and thus, it prompts you if you want to continue with the installation. Now, you said that there are two options, one to go to windows and one for the installation. Which one is the blue screen of death? Is that the option to continue or the option go into windows.

Secondly, are you able to change the options and choose between either of them because usually there should be a 30 second count down timer allowing you time to choose (however if this is during the installation, then i believe it goes in automatically. is this the case?).

If you can get the second option and go into windows, there is any easy fix for that that boot option.

Hello,

Yes it gives me 2 options . Once to contiue with setup and one to go into Windows XP. Yes you are correct the instalation did fail .

The problem is that when i reboot the computer it counts down from 5 seconds and it goes into the setup and im not always there to press down then enter.

Cheers !

P.S The blue screen is from when i go into the setup !

Thanks

Great. So next time, make sure you are there to switch to option 2 so you you can go into Windows. Then..

Here's what you do.
1. Right click on your "My Computer" icon on your desktop and click on "Properties."
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab at the right side of the dialog.
3. There if you go down, you will see a box that is labeled Startup and Recovery. Click "Settings."

Now, you should see a box. Look at "Default Operating System." On default, you said it is going to the setup option.. So what you want to do is in that drop down menu, choose the other one instead. Below that, you will see two check boxes and to the right you should see the amount of seconds it gives you. For the first one, leave it at like 10 seconds or so and the second one, you can leave it at 25 if you want.

At this point, make sure the first one is anything but 10 seconds or more so you can change optoins when you boot if it's not the right one. Now, save the settings and restart your computer. When it is restarting, you should see that option two for going into windows will be the default one now instead. So now.. if you want, you can go back into there and change the 10 seconds to 1 second so that you wont have to wait and choose, it'll just go straight to Windows next time.

Be careful not to touch the other settings because it can cause more problems.. Oh, and if it bothers you and you want to delete the other option and free up the space it took, we can also do that too.. but post back and let us know if you choose to want to delete it.

Does the motherboard by chance have SATA ports? If it does, most likely you need to install the driver for the SATA controller at the F6 prompt at the beginning of the install. You still have to do this even if you aren't using a SATA drive. You will find the driver on the motherboard cd which you will have to boot to in order to make a floppy install disk.
