XP Hangs on startup

My computer has suddenly developed this weird problem, fro no reason, i reinstalled xp this morning,and since then whenever i startup just after i log on it will freeze, for maybe 2-3 minutes, no activity or anything, then just continue to load as normal, i really can't understand what this could be, it is a fresh install of xp, so there should be no spyware or virusses, an someone please help because it is really doing my head in

yeh, it already had sp2 on it, so i assume thats it, and have done all updates

Hmmm... ive seen this happen before with the latest SP but i was never there when the problem was found... i would say to do with system config is being updated at start up or something like that.

start up msconfig by going to start -> run and typing msconfig and look at the start up tab... look for something that you know you dont need and untick it... i have a feeling some program is being started and causing a delay
 
aha, i think i may have figured it out, i had a similar problem with msn before, although i don't have msn installed,maybe its windows messenger, i'll have a check in msconfig now

yeah, usb devices can cause a similar problem... i was gonna suggest unplugging usb devices but i would have thought that you had the same devices on there that you had before so i thought not to mention it
 
it's fixed, miraculously, i just disabled winzip quickpick, which i hadn't even got installed when the problem first occured, now it's as quick as ever

lol my friend next door (kjkiller to be edzact) their PC is an Athlon 64 3200+, 1.5gb ram, 7200RPM harddrive...
decent computer... takes 10 minutes to boot... literally it takes forever to boot... i remember when i wus over their...lol

the PC in my sig boots up around 30 seconds...
it just cus they odn't know how to maintain their PC...lol last time i was over i like got rid of 5 viruses, and tons of adware...there is way more i didn't work on cus he wanted to play CS:S and do something on it... that is y it prolly doesn't work.... CS:S comes b4 killing viruses i guess...
