I have a emachine computer that I reformatted using the restore disk. the installation did not finish i assume the disk is damaged. so i put in a friends copy of xp and tried to enter my COA. XP would not accept my COA. SO i have been reformatting the computer every month to keep it working. why will it not accept my COA that is located on the back of the computer? Also, at work we was several computers that we though out weekly. could i use the COA off one of those computers? is there a chance that they could find out i use one of the trashed computers coa. they have a company come and dispose of all pcs due to confidentiality and will not let anyone buy them. thanks for you help.

It's because its 2 different versions of XP. Technically you can't use the key from another computer. When you say the installation didn't finish, what does it do? If you are getting errors when it copies files then most likely you have bad ram.

dont thhink it the ram

i thought that too but i too both 512 sticks out and replace it with both and it did the same thing. but like i said it work with another disk i just can not activate it but when i use my original disk it get to type computer name and freezes. so i asumed the disk was damaged.

you have to use the product key for that specific Disc. Other wise youll get the 30 day to activate pop up every time you use your computer.

In for sale section i have a windows xp home retail disc for sale if you need something so you dont have to keep reinstalling.

one key for one xp.

NO 1 key per disc. Keys are Disc Specific. If the key isnt found within the installation then you will not be able to activate it. Only way to fix it is buy a xp disc with product key.
